Summer Reading Essay

This summer i read a book called, The Edumacation of Jay Baker. This book is about an everyday fifteen year old in high school going through some problems in his life. No, he hasn't gotten into any fights he is just dealing with normal everyday stuff that some American kids and even I deal with in their life. I'm talking about divorce.

One day jays parents approach him and his sister and spill the beans. They are separating. You see, they are not technically divorced yet but they are living in different houses now. This is hard for Jay because he is use to his lovey dovey parents always getting along. It took jay a while to realize why his parents would do such a thing but then one day his best friend Cameo approached him and told him what was going on. She told him that her dad, yes, her dad was going out with his mother. Why would this happen you may ask? Well her excuse is that she felt that Jays father had not loved her anymore and she needed to move on. Jay retorts and says that she is wrong that you should not blame this on dad and that he still loves you. But you can't just fix a thing like this. Cameos dad is already moved in with Jays mom. I forgot to mention the fact that Jay has had a crush on Cameo for years! But she still has never even tried to ask him out.

Now that we are talking about his social life Jay is a pretty cool kid at school. But this whole thing about his parents has gotten to his head and now he isn't doing so good in school. He was going to be the school president but when the election came up, he went crazy on his opponent and he got sent to the principals office. And that is where he met Caroline. Caroline is new to the school and is a hardcore tennis player. They became boyfriend and girlfriend for a while and Cameo was out of the picture. Oh yeah did i mention that once Jay brought Cam over to his house once and they kissed? They haven't hung out much since that happened. But one day Cam and these two losers came to Jay and Caroline in a middle of a tennis match between them and they just started going off on Jay. His life is just getting harder and harder. Bullies and his parents and school all together. That must be pretty hard.

Jays mom doesn't stop there, she also went out with another man. It's really sad actually. How could She do this to everyone? His dad has not done anything and they still haven't had a divorce yet! All in all they had a divorce and Jay found out that Cam actually liked him so they went to homecoming together. So it isn't all bad... except the part where his parents are having a divorce, but that didn't strike him that much, he saw it coming and he thought that it would be better this way. There was o way it could have worked out. It was a really well written book and i would really recommend it to any teenager in middle school or even highschool.
