Lord of the flies argument essay. [This book should not be banned]

Diego Ogando Ela Draft 12/11/14

People think books should be banned just because there is somethings in it that is immature or just not good for kids and teens to hear. This comes up with the books “Lord Of The Flies”  by William Golding. This is a book about normal school boys who have been stranded on an island and have no way to get out. They go crazy and get into many fights with each other and somehow get drawn apart and start to hate each other. But This book should not be banned just because it has violence. There are things much worse that you just introduce to your children and this book hold many lessons kids and teenagers should know.

Many parents think that lord of the Flies should be and should stay banned just because it has killing and violence. Most of the book is just about the kids trying to survive and staying in their own group after they split up and become enemies. But it makes me wonder. Why would this book be banned when so many other books shouldn’t. Take the beloved harry potter books for example. This book has many violent scenes. Death of many kids and adults. But yet it is still no banned from schools everywhere. it says here on “Banned Books” from infoplease.com. It states that “ Not everyone agrees on which books should be banned. The Harry Potter books are a good example of this: some think they are wonderfully imaginative books that have done much to encourage kids to read; others, who think the Potter books should be banned, think they are a bad and corrupting influence on kids.” This book has as much violence as the book Lord of the Flies. What I  think is that these kind of books have more than a reputation than others. Lord of the flies is known to be not the best book ever. But Harry potter is loved by adults and children of all ages. So people knowing this probably thinks that it’s fine to have this book in their libraries at school. So why would this book be banned? It’s only violence, you have probably read books with as much violence and maybe even more.

Kids should know not to go around and hurting each other and setting standards as king and leader because, it and go out of hand. Kid’s can learn from this. Kid’s are going to be resistance towards being jack (the antagonist of the book.)  They are going to look at him and question the ways he is thinking. They will look at him and say no, ralph will win, he will beat jack. They will want the hero to make it out alive and well and come out on top of jack. I think parents look at this book and just think it’s a bad influence on children and i think they can actually look at this book and learn from it. They will look at jack and know it is wrong what he is doing.

Yes parents and teachers will look at this book and think it is a bad influence towards children. There is some violence towards children and they see how children can go mad without adults being with them. They will look at all of this and think that it is inappropriate for children and that they should look at this and think that this book is no good for children and that it should not be acknowledged by them. But it is in my argument that i think that they are wrong. There is something called the first amendment, freedom of speech. So if you are banning  book you are going against the freedom of speech. No one should ever be able to “ban a book.” Just because it is violent does not mean it should be taken away from someone. Also adding on to how kids can learn from lord of the flies. They can be taught how be a role model. students and kids can be aware how Ralph is in control of things and tries to be the best role model

The book lord of the flies should not be argued to be banned from school. There are things much worse that you just introduce to your children and this book hold many lessons kids and teenagers should know. All i am trying to say is that readers should have a choice what to read and shouldn’t listen to anyone else when it comes to their reading. Yes the subject of violence is not pleasant but it is not a reason to ban a book from someone. We should be able to read whatever without it being questioned.

social awareness poem

Diego Ogando      Social awareness poem              12/2/14

An announcement turned on

someone was in the building

I knew I shouldn’t have come to school today

I was scared, afraid, i didn’t know what to do

I hid under my desk and didn’t make a sound.

While i heard some footsteps come around

My teacher made a be quiet jester while touching her index finger to her lips

the steps outside stopped and it was silent

I closed my eyes and held my breath.

The door started to bang and shake as the person outside tried to open it

I looked around at my classmates

A girl next to me had her hand over her mouth trying not to make a noise while she cried

as the banging stopped I didn’t get up

But other kids did.

Just then the man shot the door open with their gun. Kids screamed and yelled

It was hell in here

I stayed laying on the floor as i put my jacket over myself  to stay hidden

The shooting stopped and so did the screaming
I heard the mans footsteps walk out of the room

And as i got up and looked around all i saw was terror

Five kids in my class. dead. I was scared. Sad. I didn’t know what to do.

I just sat there. and cried

and cried

and cried.

Interview with my mom social awareness project

Diego Ogando                    Interview 12/2/14

I asked my mom questions on how she loves to donate to charity. I found out that my mom has been doing this for a long time and that she really enjoys it and loves to help people in need.

I asked her first how long has she been donated to charity. She responded by saying that she has been donated to charity her whole life with my grandma. She liked to donate to people in vietnam and even if she just had extra clothing she would go and donate it.

I asked where does she donate and she answerd she chose housing works she donated her time to them and worked there for a while and its a great charity that gives clothing to the poor and people suffering with hiv

she usually donates once a year but when we moved houses she donated 25 garbage bags worth of clothing to housing works which i think is very nice and i really look up to her doing that.

And she said she usually donates things that are really valuable so lots of money goes to charity and if they don’t sell they give them away to poor people for free.

I really admire my mom doing this. Looking out for the poor and people who are sick. I think she is doing the right thing and she changes the world for some people. even in a little way.

Please dont steal my air jordans reading responce

Diego Ogando      please don’t take my jordans reading response 12/1/14

In the poem, “please don’t take my jordans,” I can really see what this world could really be like because things like this happen everyday. You need to look cool, you need to have people notice you and i think that this poem shows just how far someone will go to look “cool” or to get some people to notice them. the kid in this book would literally kill to have a new pair of jordans.

This poem starts off on a boy bragging about his new jordans. He says it goes well with his leather adidas cap and his fake gucci backpack. But then he says that things things are not free and they cost money. But he doesn’t have a job. So it turns out he stole the shoes. He stole the the adidas cap. He stole the fake gucci backpack. And it leads me to think that this isn’t very peculiar. Things like this happen everyday. There are just some people that would something like this on a normal basis and from what I have read it sounds like he does it on a normal basis too. He then says it is the end of the school year and he needs new gear. But he mentions that the malls security is getting more controlled and harder to steal things so that day, he packs his gun and gets ready. Just hearing this, I know what just is going to happen. He is going to kill some kid just to get new J’s. And he did. He skipped school that day and took the train to a basketball court with his, “crew.” His friends said that he wasn’t going to do it but i think that just pushed him to do it even more. He looked for an easy target. Someone who wouldn’t fight back. And once he found the kid he started to wait until the kid left. And once he left he trailed the kid to where it was a safe place to get him. He tried to take them but the kid resisted and he shot him and took them away. But something that caught me was when he was taking the sneakers the kid said, “please don’t take my air jordans away.” But he was dying. He wanted the sneakers so badly he didn’t care about his own life. He was bleeding out on the street not giving a care in the world.

This confuses me because why would he want the sneakers so badly. If i was him i would be worrying about my life. How could i get out of this alive. And what makes me uneasy is that the boy just runs away with the j’s. He didn’t even think twice. He just takes them. If i was him i would leave them there for him. It’s really sad to just shoot someone and run off with their shoes and not even think twice about it. That kid is now probably dead because you just wanted new shoes that you don’t have money for. And at the end of all this he come into school the next day like nothing happened and he says, “i don’t care cuz now… I need a new jacket to wear.” so He is going to do the same thing to just a get a new jacket which is not good at all.

and the end of this it makes me realize just how bad someone can be when it comes to how they look or how they get attention. It’s really sad that someone would actually kill to just get new clothes and not even think twice about it. I think it’s just wrong.

New ISIS video shows beheading of American hostage Peter Kassig- essay

I have chosen to write about the topic of Isis. If you do not know who Isis is they are a group of people who are thirsty for power. They kill innocent people without any second thoughts and will not atop until they have won. They want to start a war between us, and this is a big deal for the US because we can't really do anything to them because we still are unclear who they are. But it is really serious because they are killing innocent people and we need to stop them.

In the article New ISIS video shows beheading of American hostage Peter Kassig, it tells us a little bit about recent activity from Isis. They have released a new video of them beheading peter kassig, one of their hostages. In the 16 minute video of a man wearing all black and covering his face he is talking to the camera with one of his hostages by his side. After he stops his talking you see him about to cut up his neck and start to cut his head off but the video then stops and shows the body with the beheaded head on top of the body laying on the ground. He then ends his video with another hostage by him planning to kill him next. Ed and Paula Kassig, Peter's parents, released a statement early Sunday saying they were aware of the reports of their son's death. They also asked that media outlets not post any images or video distributed by Islamic State, better known as ISIS or ISIL. They then state that, "We prefer our son is written about and remembered for his important work and the love he shared with friends and family," the statement read, "not in the manner the hostage takers would use to manipulate Americans and further their cause."

The video also showed what appeared to be the beheading of more than a dozen captured Syrian soldiers, but did not show the beheading of Kassig, "This is Peter Edward Kassig, a U.S. citizen of your country; Peter, who fought against the Muslims in Iraq, while serving as a soldier," the militant says near the end of the video." Says the man dressed in all black at the end of the video. He also said, "We say to you, Obama ...you claim to have withdrawn from Iraq four years ago," the militant said. "Here you are: you have not withdrawn. Rather, you hid some of your forces behind your proxies," "Here we are, burying the first American crusader in Dabiq, eagerly waiting for the remainder of your armies to arrive."

I think this whole Isis thing has gone far enough. We need to take action and try to stop these people. It is outrageous that they are doing this to people and i think we need to find out who these people are and why they want to do this, It needs to stop.

Lord Of The Flies Reading Responce

Some may say violence is not the answer. But the kids in the book, "Lord Of The Flies" might just think differently. The lord of the flies is a book about children who have gotten stranded on an island with no adult supervision.  The kids get crazy with power and ignore the reality outside of the island and think they do not need adults. Well violence breaks out and two kids get killed and it is tragic and it may lead parents to think that their kids shouldn't be reading books like these. Parents do not approve of violence so that is a easy answer why lord of the flies might be banned from schools.

One important observation that supports my focus in the book is, one of the main character dies at the end of the book from other kids pelting hi with rocks and making him fall to his death.
They then go to kill the main character but he got away in time to not get killed by jack (the main antagonist in the book.) This happens n page 181 and i quote, "The rock struck piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee ; the conch exploded into thousands of white fragments and ceased to exist. Piggy said nothing with no time for even a grunt, traveled through the air sideways from the rock turning over as he went. The rock bounded twice and was lost in the forest piggy fell forty feet and landed on his back on a red rock in sea. His head opened and stuff came out and turned red." This quote shows that parents would not want their kids to visualize this and be consuming these terrible thoughts and thinking of kids killing each other.

Another important observation i have made in the book is that parents may not like the way jack treats others in the book. Jack is a very violent boy and not having adults around is not helping. He thinks he can do whatever he wants just because no one can stop him. He has gone crazy with power and no one questions him on his power because they are too scared. On page 51 Jack keeps on repeating "we need meat." He was crazed and he needed to kill but Ralph insisted that they find a shelter but he kept repeating we need meat. He was going crazy.

The last important observation I found that parents may find disturbing for children is when Jack and his group of hunters go hunting and find a group of pigs and just went crazy. They went on a killing spree. He was tackling them and it was just horrible he killed them all and there was nothing the little pigs could do. Parents wouldn't want their kids to see this because it could really leave kids with some really scary thoughts and they would not want their kids to see these types of things.

This text could relate with the world because it really shows just how crazy someone can get when they go crazy. You do not want to be put in this type of situation. People can just go crazy and think they are the boss. Then people get too scared to question them. You should feel that you shouldn't really ban this book you should learn from it. Learn to not be like the kids in the book. That is what you should learn from this.

The Giver

The book, "The Giver" is about a dystopian society somewhere in the future and everything seems perfect. No one see's anything wrong with the place. They all get their jobs and they help out with the society somehow. And the main character Jonas got the job called the receiver. the receiver has the job to get memories of the past. Things they have never witnessed. He has seen tings others haven't seen. He has been seeing all of these visions and it's pretty much changing his life. But you're not sure if it's for the better or worse.

Jonas has been seeing all of these visions and all of these things other people have not seen and it is affecting him. Such as when he saw war for the first time. He was scared. He couldn't believed this could ever happen. He was used to his goody two shoes village where he thinks nothing bad happens and he would never get hurt. But this. This made him think differently about the world around him. When his friends were playing war and were pretending to be shot by fake guns, he knew the reality and couldn't go back to playing with them. The other kids were confused about what he was doing. He was just standing in the middle of the field they were playing on.One kid yelled jonas you're hit! He didn't move. He couldn't stop remembering what he saw. People dying. he was scared. He was uneasy. He whispered stop to all of them but they didn't get why he was doing this. They shrugged it off and went and played somewhere else. He was hesitant. He knew it was wrong to do. His mind kept on going back to the scene where he saw the man dying. The man wanted water. He almost cried just about a silly game of war. That is how much these visions are affecting his life. He can't even play a game with his friends anymore.

Also the first time he ever felt this much paint. He was sledding down a hill. He felt great. He was having so much fun. It was like the most fun he has ever had in his life. It was all going great until he hit a ramp. He was in mid air. He had a view of the park. But then all of a sudden, he was falling. He kept falling until he hit the ground and then BAM! His leg broke. He was i shock. He didn't know what was happening. Pain just went to his leg and his first instinct was to scream. He was scared. He didn't want to be there anymore. He wanted to leave. It was good while it lasted but when this happened he wanted to go. With this he felt pain. He did not like it but he needed to feel it. He is scarred from these memories and does not want to witness them anymore. He hates it.

Summer Reading Essay

This summer i read a book called, The Edumacation of Jay Baker. This book is about an everyday fifteen year old in high school going through some problems in his life. No, he hasn't gotten into any fights he is just dealing with normal everyday stuff that some American kids and even I deal with in their life. I'm talking about divorce.

One day jays parents approach him and his sister and spill the beans. They are separating. You see, they are not technically divorced yet but they are living in different houses now. This is hard for Jay because he is use to his lovey dovey parents always getting along. It took jay a while to realize why his parents would do such a thing but then one day his best friend Cameo approached him and told him what was going on. She told him that her dad, yes, her dad was going out with his mother. Why would this happen you may ask? Well her excuse is that she felt that Jays father had not loved her anymore and she needed to move on. Jay retorts and says that she is wrong that you should not blame this on dad and that he still loves you. But you can't just fix a thing like this. Cameos dad is already moved in with Jays mom. I forgot to mention the fact that Jay has had a crush on Cameo for years! But she still has never even tried to ask him out.

Now that we are talking about his social life Jay is a pretty cool kid at school. But this whole thing about his parents has gotten to his head and now he isn't doing so good in school. He was going to be the school president but when the election came up, he went crazy on his opponent and he got sent to the principals office. And that is where he met Caroline. Caroline is new to the school and is a hardcore tennis player. They became boyfriend and girlfriend for a while and Cameo was out of the picture. Oh yeah did i mention that once Jay brought Cam over to his house once and they kissed? They haven't hung out much since that happened. But one day Cam and these two losers came to Jay and Caroline in a middle of a tennis match between them and they just started going off on Jay. His life is just getting harder and harder. Bullies and his parents and school all together. That must be pretty hard.

Jays mom doesn't stop there, she also went out with another man. It's really sad actually. How could She do this to everyone? His dad has not done anything and they still haven't had a divorce yet! All in all they had a divorce and Jay found out that Cam actually liked him so they went to homecoming together. So it isn't all bad... except the part where his parents are having a divorce, but that didn't strike him that much, he saw it coming and he thought that it would be better this way. There was o way it could have worked out. It was a really well written book and i would really recommend it to any teenager in middle school or even highschool.
